This is the detailed, full version of the rules. This was made for the English server.

Introduction

It is most important that you behave in a polite, mature way that is not disruptive to the other members of the server. Common sense and the ability to listen to others will make everyone's experience on the server more pleasant.

Section A | Moderation

A1. Staff have the final say.

If a staff member states their decision on a situation, it is final. It is no longer up for debate, and normal users should stop discussing the issue in public channels.

A1-1. If a staff member asks you to change your behaviour, you are expected to do what they say.

A1-2. If you think the staff members are abusing their power, take a deep breath, and private message an admin explaining to them the situation.

A1-3. Mom/Dad Rule You must respect the staff member's decision. You can be sanctioned for going to other staff members to try and get a different verdict. There is an exception when you are reporting staff abuse.

Please be polite when interacting with staff members, even if you do not agree with their opinion. I promise we want to help you (unless you're here to break the rules!). It makes the situation much easier to deal with if everyone acts maturely. The staff are humans! Treat them with the courtesy that you would give any other human being.

A2. Catch-all

We reserve the right to block problematic users from the server. This means, if a user is being malicious and threatening the wellbeing of the server or its members, the staff may decide to ban them.

A3. False Reports

When you give someone's username to the staff members, because you think they have broken the rules, this is a 'report'. You should be 100% certain that they are breaking the rules before you contact staff. If you lie when reporting someone or waste the staff members' time, this is prohibited.

Section B | Behaviour

B1. Harassment

Harassment is prohibited. Be respectful to other users on the server, don't attack them or make them feel uncomfortable. If a user or multiple users are uncomfortable with what you are doing or saying, you should stop.

B1-1. Hate speech is prohibited. Attacking a group based simply on their identity is not allowed.

B1-2. The use of slurs is prohibited. No matter what the context is, we want users of all backgrounds to feel comfortable on the server, so using any slurs is not allowed.

Even if you feel like you have permission to say slurs, on this server you do not. Using slurs makes members feel uncomfortable and unwanted and creates a toxic environment.

B1-3. It is forbidden to use, in a reasonably interpreted negative (adverse) connotation, any word or term associated with any person’s age, race, sex, gender identity, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, religion or belief.

In plain terms, that means that you should not use words that can discriminate a group of people negatively. It can offend others and it's best to err on the safe side.

B1-4. Serious cases of harassment are prohibited and may be banned immediately. Extortion, blackmail, releasing personal information, intimidation, and creepy behaviour are examples of this. If somebody asks you to stop contacting them, you should stop.

B1-5. Avoid provoking users or trying to start fights with others.

B2. Spam

Don't flood channels with useless or annoying messages (called "spam"). Spam is prohibited.

B2-1. Any malicious content is prohibited. For example: links to scams, viruses, phishing websites and malware. YOU WILL BE BANNED IMMEDIATELY FOR THIS

B2-2. Advertising is posting a link to a server or website with the intention of getting more exposure for that server or website. Advertising on the server is not allowed.

If you want to share a server or website link with somebody in direct message, make sure to get their permission first before you do it. Sending advertising links to people without their permission is prohibited.

B2-3. Pinging is when you @User or @Group of users to get their attention. Pinging members in an abusive way is prohibited.

B2-4. We are a learning community, not a marketplace. Don't use our server to advertise, solicit goods or services, or host scams.

B3. Post in the appropriate channel.

Each channel has a purpose, and different types of conversations must be started in the correct channel. A channel's purpose will be described in the Channel Description. The Channel description can be found next to its' name. In the image below, the description is circled in blue.

B3-1. Debates, intense discussions, belong in "#politics-and-discussion"

B3-2. English must be the primary language used to communicate in all channels except those labeled 'other languages'. If a conversation is mostly in another language, it must be moved to the 'other languages' channels, or it is prohibited. Other languages in the "Small Rooms" voice channels are allowed as long as everyone in the channel consents.

B4. PG-13 & Media

Chat should be kept PG-13 at all times. Anyone should be able to view the chat from school or work without drawing attention from others.

B4-1. Content that is against Discord ToS/Community Guidelines is not allowed.

B4-2. Content that mocks others or tragic events is not allowed.

B4-3. Content that's explicit, disgusting, or disturbing is not allowed.

B4-4. Streaming copyrighted content is not allowed. This includes movies, series, Netflix, etc.

B5. Evasion

If you create another account to avoid a sanction that was given to you, this is prohibited. YOU WILL BE BANNED FOR THIS.

If you want to appeal a ban, you must use the forums.

B6. Shitposting

Shitposting is starting non-serious, trollish, and unnecessary conversations. Lighthearted jokes and discussion occasionally are fine, but fluff shouldn't be the only thing you do on the server. Shitposting is prohibited.

B7. Debate etiquette

A debate is when you present an argument, another person criticizes that argument, and you go back and forth. If you intend to debate a topic on the server, below are the requirements:

B7-1. The debate must take place in the "#politics-and-discussion channel. Debates are not permitted in other channels, such as "#hangout".

B7-2. Debaters should not insult, offend, or disrespect other debaters in any way. Attack the idea, not the person.

B7-3. He who asserts must prove. Debaters should present claims that they can back up with evidence

B7-4. If a Moderator asks you to stop the debate, you must stop.

Section C | Learning

C1. Answering Questions

Repeatedly giving wrong answers to questions asked in the "#english-questions" channel is prohibited. If you don't know the answer for certain, it is best to stay quiet.

C2. Pretending to be a native

Do not pretend to be a native speaker of the English language. The official server definition of a 'native speaker' can be found below:

Native - a person who learned to speak the language of the place where he or she was raised as a child rather than learning it as a foreign language

You must have been raised in a primarily English-speaking country and be able to speak the language fluently to qualify as a 'native'.

C3. Assistance

Many of the natives and teachers on our server will be glad to help you on your English learning journey, but you should not abuse their assistance.

C3-1. We will correct your English homework, and answer questions you may have about the assignment, but we will not complete it for you (even if you give us money!) This rule also applies to translations and similar requests.

C3-2. It's best to use the channels on the server if you need help from a native speaker or teacher. We have channels dedicated to English learning for a reason, some natives don't want to be flooded with DMs asking for help.

Section D | Voice Channels

D1. All existing rules apply in the voice channels.

There is no exception to the rules just because you are in a different type of channel.

D2. Disruptive sounds

Any sort of loud, disruptive sound through the microphone (screaming, earrape, soundboard or playing music through your microphone) is prohibited.

D2-1. Voice changers (anything used to change the sound of your voice) are allowed, if they are not disruptive. If a staff member asks a user to stop using their voice changer, they must stop. If they continue, this is prohibited.

D2-2. If you have lots of background noise, you may be given the "PTT" role (Push To Talk). This means you will need to press a button to talk on the voice channels, rather than being able to talk whenever you want. Learn how to set up push to talk here: https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/211376518-Voice-Input-Modes-101-Push-to-Talk-Voice-Activated-

If users say they are uncomfortable with what you are doing, you should stop or find some sort of solution. It is always better to avoid conflict in the voice channels before the staff must get involved.

D3. Abusing the music bot

On the server we have multiple bots which can be used to play music from YouTube, Soundcloud, and other websites. These are the rules for good etiquette when using these features.

D3-1. Using the music bot to play loud, disruptive sounds (screaming, earrape, high pitched ringing, etc) is prohibited.

D3-2. Using the music bot to play explicit content is prohibited.

D3-3. Cooperate with other users! Let other users have the opportunity to play and listen to their own music. If you have been requesting songs for a while, ask other users if they would like to have a turn.

Section E | Presentation

The way you present yourself on the server is very important. It's how other members see you and is the first impression you make on the community. Any moderator retains the right to restrict your access to the server if you present yourself in a way that violates any of the rules listed here.

E1. Appropriate profile pictures, status messages, usernames, and nicknames (Presentation).

E1-1. Profile pictures, status messages, usernames, and nicknames (hereby referred to as "Presentation") cannot contain nudity of any kind or other suggestive sexual content. The English server is family friendly, meaning it strives to be a safe haven for all users, including younger adolescents, therefore nudity or suggestive sexual content in Presentation is not allowed.

E1-2. Presentation cannot contain violent content. Presentation must not contain any type of discriminatory or violent behavior or depictions. This includes any type of hate speech, self-harm, discrimination or violence.

E1-3. Presentation must not be used to impersonate staff in any way.

E1-4. Presentation must not advertise streams, websites, channels, other discord servers, or third-party content. This includes having a link in your username.

E1-5. Presentation should follow our family-friendly rules, therefore if it contains any of the above content or content that can be deemed unfamily-friendly, it will be removed.

E1-6. You are forbidden from having Invisible usernames or portrayals of war criminals, terrorists and potentially divisive people.

E1-7. Do not present yourself as something you're not, to fool other people or benefit from this in any way. Catfishing and phishing is against the rules.

E1-8. Do not brandish weapons, show drugs or weed on camera or on your profile.

If you've arrived this far, thank you for taking time out of your day to read these rules. The moderation team wants to make sure everybody has a nice experience on the server, and we believe these rules will help.
